Senior Staff Accountant

Akhiok-Kaguyak, Inc. is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to be responsible for the daily and monthly accounting activities including billing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, purchasing, general ledger analysis, bank reconciliation analysis, bi-weekly payroll, payroll tax compliance, travel and expense reimbursements, internal controls, and month end, quarter end, and year end accounting processes.  You must be willing to roll up their sleeves and be responsible for hands on management of all accounting activities for various companies.  In addition to a diverse accounting background, you will need to have a very strong aptitude for financial systems, be an expert with Excel, have a working knowledge of Costpoint, and an understanding of relational databases.

This position reports to Chief Financial Officer.  This position is based in our Anchorage, AK location.

Essential Job Functions

  • Generate and manage monthly billing process
  • Record journal entries for accurate revenue recognition and unbilled AR reporting
  • Prepare, review, and analyze all intercompany transactions and journal entries
  • Prepare journal entries for job cost and bank reconciliations for parent and subsidiary bank accounts
  • Enter and process all cash receipts and bank reconciliations
  • Review, prepare and input accrual, standard, recurring, re-classification and other journal entries
  • Prepare all general ledger reconciliations
  • Process employee expense reports through Deltek Costpoint ensuring that expenses are appropriately documented and approved
  • Process all vendor invoices and weekly AP check runs
  • Ensures all vendor payments are recorded in accounting system timely
  • Coordinates vendor payments and setup ACH, Wires, etc. in banking portal
  • Maintain the vendor terms master file
  • Export time keeping data, process 3rd party payroll, post payroll and reconcile payroll to job cost
  • Prepare monthly payroll analysis and monthly/quarterly allocations
  • Maintenance and review of employee data from HR and other benefit related systems that interface with external payroll service to ensure accurate updates of employee payroll attributes
  • Serve as primary contact to coordinate with external payroll service, federal, state and local tax jurisdictions for implementation and information exchange
  • Assists CFO with running month/quarter/year end closes
  • Executes and confirms monthly accounting operating calendar deadlines are met
  • Makes recommendations on accounting processes and work flows
  • Review audit processes and documentation during audit periods and assist in coordinating all audit engagements
  • Take an integral role to initiate immediate use of the Costpoint accounting system
  • Assist in and undertake other projects as assigned

Core Requirements

Must be computer savvy and very well versed in Costpoint and Microsoft Office, must be proactive, timely, possess good communication skills, be responsible and express consistent follow through. Must have the ability to work with a variety of personalities, have the ability to problem solve and be able to master somewhat complicated books. Must work well under what can be changing and evolving deadlines while remaining calm and flexible.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • 3-6 years of accounting / bookkeeping/ analytical experience
  • Experience with GAAP and Government Contract Accounting
  • Deltek Costpoint required
  • QuickBooks experience a plus
  • Strong MS Office skills particularly Excel
  • MUST understand balance sheets, income statements, journal entries, general ledgers, trial balances, and chart of accounts
  • Experience in Payroll Processing and PR Tax Filings
  • Experience in full cycle accounting and year end close processes
  • Accounts Receivable Billing Experience with WAWF a plus
  • Supervisory experience a plus
  • A team player with strong communication skills
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to set priorities and meet deadlines
